1. You Make My Heart Beat like a Honey Bees Wings

Honey bees can fly 15-28 mph when heading out to get nectar and slow down to about 12 mph when carrying a load of it back. They beat their wings about 200 times per second. That’s 12000 beats per minute.

In their short lifespan, they’ll fly a distance equivalent to traveling around the earth 1 1/2 times. They usually stay pretty close to home though rarely traveling more than five miles from home.

Bees have four wings that are made of chitin, which is the same composition as their exoskeleton.

You may wonder where the bees carry all the pollen while they’re flying home…they have a second stomach especially for nectar storage. They can store and carry up to 80% of their own body weight in pollen or nectar.

2. My Love for You Is like Honey, It’s Sweeter Than Sugar and Will Last Forever.

The colony can last forever because worker, drone bees and the queen are replaced so the hive continues to grow and thrive. Older bees teach the younger ones how to make honey.

Honey can also last forever. In fact, there was honey found in an ancient Egyptian tomb that was thousands of years old and it’s still edible.

Most worker and drone bees live for about 5-6 weeks during the summer but the Queen bee can live for 5 years. She is kept busy in the summer laying eggs and boy does she lay a lot of them! 1500-2500 a day.

Part of the reason a queen lives so much longer is that she can sting and continue to live while worker bees die after using their stinger to sting someone or something. A queen bee’s stinger is different than the others in that it’s smooth where the other bees have jagged barbed stingers.

3. You Are the Honey of My Life, You’re the Only Thing I Need and Make Me a Better Person

Honey is the only food essence that contains every nutrient you need to live. It can sustain you with antibacterial and antioxidant properties that actually make you healthier.

Raw honey can make you smarter because it contains the antioxidant pinocembrin which improves memory and brain function. It can also improve your cognitive ability while reducing anxiety, and boosting your immune system.

A fully functioning beehive can produce between 20-70 pounds of honey each year. It requires approximately 550 bees to produce one pound of it.

The number of bees in a hive changes drastically through different times of the year. In the spring, after overwintering, there are usually around 10,000- 15,000 bees but at the peak of summer there can be anywhere between 50,000-80,000 living and contributing to the hive.

It takes approximately 30,000 bees to pollinate one acre (208.7 by 208.7 feet) of fruit trees.

4. You Deserve Royal Jelly Cause You’re My One and Only Queen Bee

There is only one Queen bee per colony and she is truly treated like the queen she is. From the time she is a larvae, she is taken care of by the colony and fed royal jelly her entire life.

When a new queen is needed it is for one of three reasons. Either the current queen has become old, she has gone missing or part of the colony is starting their own hive.

In all of these cases, the bees choose a few good eggs to give the royal treatment. This will include a bigger ‘room’ in the hive to grow and a continued diet of food fit for a queen. The first larvae to emerge as fully developed basically kills off the other contenders and claims her throne.

The worker bees will then cater to her every need and feed her royal jelly for the rest of her life.

5. You’re My Honey Bee, You Satisfy My Soul and Feed My Hunger

About a third of all foods Americans eat exists because of pollination. While bees aren’t the only ones who allow this to happen, they are the main pollinators. The things we love and add flavor to our lives are probably thanks to the hardworking honey bees around us.
